Wildfires and floods are happening more often with increasing intensity. What might we learn from youth in the child welfare system - society's most vulnerable - who have lived through a disaster? This research is timely and necessary, not just for youth in care, but for a world impacted by climate change.

What People Are Saying
"Losing my home and all my belongings wasn't even the worst thing that happened to me" ~ A key informant speaking about what it was like to leave care at 16 and lost their house during a flood at age 19
"...it all happened really fast, and I felt like I had no control over the situation, and it was really sad for me" ~ A key informant whose foster home - the second of three placements in ten years - burned in a fire when they were 13 years old
This research is partly inspired by what happened during the 2021 wildfires and Atmospheric River events in BC ; watching people evacuate from one community only to be evacuated again four months later reminded me of what it was like to move between foster placements. ~ Andrea Taylor
